Exhibition
Slices
Yuliy Takov
April 19 – May 9, 2023
The exhibition “Slices” by Yuliy Takov presents artworks on paper from the ‘Oecumene’ series, made between 2010 and 2012 during the artist’s stay in Canada, as well as his last drawings from a cycle, recently developed by the artist.
The works are abstract, the person is absent, and the author’s focus is on the mark of his presence, the trace he leaves.
“Drawings for me are like a record of segments of time, a kind of self-portrait for the day, week or year,” says Yuliy Takov. – Sometimes the direction is predetermined. Other times, I start somewhere and keep going without knowing where it will take me. Along with the drawings, I present some of my latest watercolors from the series “Reality is a Mystery”. There the person is at the center. Immersed in his illusory world, he meets the barriers he himself has set before himself and overcoming them finds meaning in his existence.
In both series, the same thing excites me, although presented in two completely different ways. The interaction between internal and external forces. The influence of the surrounding environment on the inner world, and vice versa, their interrelation.’
