Edmond Demirdjian Foundation Awards
VELISLAVA GECHEVA
15 – 30 September 2012
With this exhibition The Edmond Demirdjiyan Foundation is handing their annual award for a young artist for the third time. The selection of the jury consisting of Maria Vasileva, Nadejda Oleg Lyahova and Daniela Radeva is Velislava Gecheva.
Born in 1986 Velislava graduated The National Academy of Arts in 2010. In her short resume there already are participations in prestigious exhibitions like the Allianz Bulgaria Awards for painting sculpture and graphic art, 2012, Urban Zone, 2011, The Night of the Nominees, Essl Art Awards CEE 2011, National competition for young artists, critics and curators of the St. Cyril and Methodious Foundation, 2011 as well as nominations and awards like the Societe Generale Expressbank and The National Academy of Arts’ award for accomplishments in the field of art and design, 2010 etc.
In her paintings Velislava is interested in mundane situations. They remind of the random subjects of photos of occurrences and topics of everyday life. Often there is a relation to traveling, movement of people to different places respectively to the dynamics of contemporary life. The expressive brushstrokes, the unusual choices of point of views and the unorthodox cutting of the painted fields complete the vitality of the imagery.
Traditionally the show for the award for a young artist is a collaborative exhibition of the works of the awarded artist with the paintings of Edmond Demirdjiyan.
