Greddy Assa is famous as a member and founder of the “The City” – the first and probably the most successful group of Bulgarian avant-garde artists at the end of 1980s. The exhibitions and performances of the group were reaction against the communist regime in Bulgaria before the political changes in 1989. For the first time installations, op-art, performances were shown which altered the concept of the public of contemporary art and the way of its exposure. Later, the artist returns to painting and works mainly abstract compositions. His paintings create the impression of a spontaneous transfer of subtle emotion and thoughts on canvas. His works are distinguished by intensity of colors and the energy of light and contrast. Greddy Assa has many exhibitions worldwide, among them participation in the 54th Venice Biennial in 2011.
