SASHA PANCHICH STEFAN BOZHKOV
14 – 30 April 2011
Rakursi Art Gallery presents the exhibition of Sasha Panchich and Stefan Bozhkov from 14.04 to 30.04.2011. Both artists share common interests and are bond by a friendship.
Sasha Panchich presents a collection of black and white acrylic works on wood panel, set in a formation that represents elements of the Balkan’s cultural heritage. Through a synthetic process, it aims to connect the aesthetics of Eastern Orthodox two-dimensional icon and ornamentation in Islamic art. He uses flat surface close to the means of abstractionism and works with monochrome colours. The title of this cycle of paintings is “A Road to Constantinople”. Through a time-line perspective, it collects scattered pieces of heritage of many past empires that ruled over Balkan lands through the centuries: Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, Austrian-Hungarian, integrating them into a contemporary visual experience.
The works of Sasha Panchich correspond with the paintings of Stefan Bozhkov that are fulfilled in his well-known for the public style. In his art he often reaches complete reduction of the form, searching for a combination between sign and realism. All his works are inspired by the peculiarities of everyday life.
